Delicious Fin Goodness (Fin Unboxing)

Posted by Greg Kumparak on August 16th, 2007 at 12:47 PM

Mr. FedExUPS man just showed up at the door with our Fin.

We did a quick unboxing series for all the packaging lovers out there.

All of the unboxy goodness is right behind the jump.

Same awesome package design as we’ve grown accustomed to.

I freakin’ love this part of the packaging. I use the one that came with my Ocean to keep all my gadgets safe in my drawer. It also makes an awesome boat for Lego people.

Tada! Fin and Quickstart Guide/CD. Below that are the accessories. In the rush of things, I forgot to take a picture of the accessories still in the box. Imagination time!

Clockwise from left: Wall charger, Fin, Headset (Surprisingly nice..), Battery, USB Cable

Heres what’s inside the folder shown earlier: Manual CD, Quickstart Guide, “Health and Safety Information” (Do not eat Fin.)

The headphones that come with the Fin are surprisingly nice. Same ones that come with the other Samsung devices. Better than I remember the Ocean’s being (I’d compare, but they are currently kicking my arse at Hide and Seek.)

The ear buds have a nice rubber layer on them, making them a bit more comfortable in the ear. Built in Mic and push button. Non-standard plug is kind of a bummer, but thats standard on the Samsung devices. If you want to use a different headset, you can scrounge up an adapter online for 12 bucks or so (Google for “Samsung Headset Adapter”). Headset plugs into the same port as the power charger. I’ll check out the quality and write about it in the review later.

Standard size comparison: George Washington’s Head, Fin, Ocean

Much better, useful size comparison: The Fin compared to a push pin, a red paper clip, a massive push pin, a wooden aardvark, and a Smurf playing with a toy car.

Gizmodo also did an awesome unboxing, and a size comparison to a few other devices. However, their size comparison does not include toy smurfs.

In-depth Fin review coming later today, once I’ve actually had a chance to play with it a bit.
