Helio Player is born
Posted by Justin B. on December 12th, 2007 at 06:24 PM
With all the hub-bub and giddy excitement surrounding the YouTube Mobile release, nearly everyone forgot to note the release of the new Helio Player (Including us. Whoops.) Replacing the now defunct Helio Media Mover, Helio Player brings a fresh interface and a very iTunes like feel (minus some of the bloatiness. And, unfortunately, the mac support.)
Helio Player will work with the Fin, Ocean, Drift, and Heat, but some features are Ocean exclusive. You can easily move pics to and from your Ocean, move videos, music, and convert music and videos to the correct format for your device. You can also redownload to your PC any music you’ve previously purchased via your device. It also brings a surprising change: you can now purchase songs for .99 cents instead of 1.99 through Helio Player, making Helio’s digital media distribution that much more competitive. No word on if this discounted price is only for Helio Player purchases, or if it’s planned to be rolled out onto the mobile store.
We haven’t gotten a chance to play with it yet, but we’ll let you know once we’ve torn it apart. Tell us what you think in the comments!
For the download, and a device-by-device feature chart, check it out here.

do we have any idea when mac support will be out?

“very iTunes like feel (minus some of the bloatiness).”
uhh, you also forgot the (minus the Mac support) part.

I got this before I got my YouTube app. It’s cool for my part.

I guess those of us still using Win2k will eventually have to make the transition for software like this. Oh well.

No Mac support? What’s the deal?
December 13th, 2007 at 8:21 am
i was really hoping that i could take my pictures off my ocean from the internal memory with this but no such luck unless i missed something.

Looks great, very polished. This is what I’ve been waiting for… I always hated to download music on my device mainly because it’s the only place i can play it them. BTW QTfairuse will allow you to strip the DRM coding off your iTunes music so you can play it within here. Also it does pic sync without a card, so you can finally take them off your device without having a card. I believe this now makes the deal, maybe in later versions if they could add a Calender options, we’d be all squared away.

Will this make puttin vid on the ocean is. I heard itwas very had before. So I didn’t even wanna try. Personally I’d love to have movies on my phone. Like the number 23. Something to watch @ work

I am disappointed with it. I have had two oceans (which I take care of very well, the first one was defecetive) and work in the IT field (just as a reference point so you don’t think I’m tech dumb!). I have tried everything:
- the Helio Media Player
- the drivers themselves
- Sync Mode
- Mass Storage Mode
- Video Mode
you name it. My Helio will not allow me to transfer files to it.
I am running:
- Windows XP SP 2
- 2GHz AMD Sempron
- 512MB RAM
- Multiple USB Devices
This is the only one I have issues with. Neither phone has been able to transfer any data onto or off of it and it is so frustrating!!!!!

I am still waiting for x64 support
December 14th, 2007 at 10:28 pm
You have to drag the files from ” My Music Library” to either “Internal” or “External on your device in order to transfer files successfully.

this player has auto video conversion when transfering video onto ur phone…didn’t work so well…lotsa pixel-ing

This program looks good but it is trash. I have tried everything to put videos on my Ocean. As of now I have only been able to put pics with this program. I tried all three options (Helio Sync, Mass Storage & Video+Music Sync) and it keeps telling me to use another option other than the option I am using. Very frustrating!

I was putting videos on my ocean fine by converting it myself. The player isn’t letting me do it at all. I was so looking forward to a shorter process drag and drop video transfer to my Ocean….VIDEO TRANSFER!

Aaron, try uninstalling Helio Player, install the Ocean Driver (from Helio.com), then re-installing Helio Player. I had similar issues. The bundled driver with player didn’t work. When I reinstalled driver, then player and player asked what drivers I wanted I still selected Ocean and somehow it all works now.
Send an email if this made no sense at all and you would like my help. AmisRBjr@myhelio.com

can someone help me get passed the drm ,or is it dmr, part. i’ve paid and downloaded the song, i can’t play it; my machine keeps telling me about some licensing issue. do i need a conduit? anyone else with this issue? i get frustrated. or should i just call helio?
December 20th, 2007 at 10:16 am
They have a bunch of FAQs on the website that seem to answer a lot of questions or problems. If you go to helio.com, click on support, then Frequently Asked Questions, and select Helio Player in the dropdown.

My Helio Player Blows!!!
After purchasing three new albums through it, it will NOT allow me to play ANY of them.
I can play albums that I imported from WMP, but not the ones that I purchased (FROM HELIO!).
The program simply freezes and stops responding. Ugh.
