Helio’s YouTube Mobile available now, Reviewed.

How often do you find yourself wanting to Rickroll someone while you’re out and about, only to find out there’s nary a computer in sight? Up until recently, you’d be out of luck. On-the-go YouTube offerings were pretty much crap. Apple’s YouTube application came along - tons of videos, a great start! But what about all the rest of the stuff YouTube had to offer?
Well, Good news: Helio’s YouTube Mobile application launched this morning. It features the absolutely massive video catalog you’d expect from a YouTube application, along with the ability to record and upload videos on the go and all of the community features (commenting, rating, user subscriptions, etc). Better news: The application is outstanding. Best news: It’s free. Grab it today from the Applications section on your device.

Just saw this on gizmodo.. this truly is a well done application, kudos to helio for finally unlocking us in this area. Now they can truly boast about being the only phone that can upload video to youtube from your phone.

Does anyone know if closing the phone while uploading cancels the process of uploading? Or do we need to leave the slider open till the video is done uploading?

Hey L Holla, it is the full catalog of videos available on you tube but what happened to me a few times is the youtube application won’t load all the videos (this only happened a few times)

I’ve used it a few times and the videos have been buffering like crazy. I was extremely impressed with the interface quality and ease of uploading videos though. Because the old method of using HelioUP was just not worth the effort. Does anyone know if there is an upload size limit like before(old limit was 2mb which is HORRIBLE).

i get maybe 30 seconds worth of feed, then the app times out. apart from that, a decent app with a nice UI.

I keep gettin the buffering timed out. Arrrrgggghhhhhh. I can’t watch a full video. It goes maybe 2 mins before it stops
December 12th, 2007 at 8:19 pm
Buffer timeout error here as well. What’s that all about?

I have no idea bud. Its killin me. I woke up @ 2 am last night and downloaded the app when I saw. It smiilled all night. Then during the day. It got all wacko on me

About buffer issues: From what I hear, the streaming servers are taking a bit of a beating as everyone pounces on this release. I’d be really surprised if things weren’t worked out quickly.

ok so..
is this new application only for the ocean? because i hated my ocean and just bought a fin last week. and with the fin being the latest phone released by helio, why is it not the first device to be able to use all of the new applications first?
i love the concept of helio, but i am getting very pissed off by so many things. i am not a nitpicker. but why are there only 3 phones currently on the market? ofcourse there is the mysto coming out, but it is a slider. have we not got enough of those?

I hope so. I hope so

I feel u. They seem to be worried about having unique phones. So that takes time. But I hope this youtube app gets worked out soon. I love youtube

Yeah, this application is cool but, like the other complaints, the buffering really does kill the mood…literally…But, I have to admit that being able to watch a majority of Youtube videos is pretty cool….Helio is pretty cool for doing this..
And to go with what Greg said, I think that this problem will only persist for a little while longer….They’ll probably fix it ASAP…But for now, this application is real picky as to what videos it chooses to play…Some of them wont even play without the buffer interruption and others will play just fine… I dont know but I hope the problem gets solved…and QUICK!
With Helio, what Im noticing, it’s either good or bad….thats it…There is no in between or you like it a little bit…You either hate it or you love it…Helio is a great phone….excuse me, device company and they have great ideas but sometimes these ideas are not as big of a success as they are advertised….Oh, well…Still love ya Helio! Good Job with the Youtube, again…Much appreciated!

I pretty much move my ocean. its few things I don’t like. That could be improved on. Like the vid quality. Its not really a good multi tasker. Arrgggghhhh coming from a sidekick user multi tasking is a must. I need to be able to I.m. And text while being able to surf and listen to music etc. Arrgggghhhh frustrates me. Oh yeah andi don’t like the fact the web hasto close everytime. Then u have to load the page over again. But I love my helio ocean and this is coming from a guy who has a phone with all 4 major carriers

By the way. I hate that I can’t get hot on my ocean. That’s a bummer
December 16th, 2007 at 8:18 am
I seen a helio commercial for youtube. I think its kinda soon. Seeing how they still have problems that need to be worked out

Are there any plans to offer this app on the heat, I feel left out getting only the sparse options you tube offers via wap on the cute but crippled nate browser
