New Samsung Helio device FCC’d

Posted by Greg Kumparak on August 26th, 2007 at 03:12 PM

A new device, the Samsung SPH-A523, has shown up over at the FCC.

The rumor mill is churning on this one - as usual, there’s someone out there who’s “positive” its any given type of device.

What we do know:

- Samsung Device, definitely intended for Helio use.
- 180 Day Information embargo, hinting that it should be released during or before February.
- From the scale of the few pictures in the FCC reports, it appears to be about 1.9×3.9 (WxH. No idea on depth. Very, very rough estimate - All subject to be completely wrong.)
- Appears to have a Camera , Removable battery, MicroSD slot below the battery.

So, What is it? No idea. We’ll update you as more information is made available.

    Cool.
I hope it’s another mobile messaging power house/and puts an end to those “oh Helio is a goner in a couple of years” rumors floating around the world wide web.

  3. mels Says:

i hope they name it Castroneves so it will be the Helio Castroneves. `=|

Hrm… from that shadow design, it looks like the heat or the Drift. It could be a new version of either, maybe to phase out the drift with an upgrade or alternative. I hope this doesn’t mean that they are going to keep pumping out devices that will just mean they will stop or slow down with the updates for the ocean.

Good guess, but it appears the new device is Samsung made and has the MicroSD slot behind the battery, eliminating both of those options:-/

o i went to the FCC page and didn’t understand any of the reports. that one with a duel sliding one lookes like something helio should put out. helio has the slickest phones around! any idea of the overall design? someone said it will be a replacement to the drift? any ideas?

a new device sounds cool but lets face it, the fin was kinda crap. i mean, i LOVE the color and any competition to motos is cool…but the thing is HUGE. i had the opportunity to play with one when we got them i at my store (fye) and its kinda big. BiG! a new device to take over for the drift would be very cool. im too in love with my ocean (which im posting from to want another phone. hello? ocean update?

I got to take a deeper look at one of the PDFs at the website. While laced up with security options, I managed to extract the contents and take a look at the schematic. It most definately does not look like either of those phones.

  12. gonzotino Says:

ps - the only schematic was for the back of the phone (shows the microSD slot)

hey did you happen to have the file still? maybe a link to see it. I wanna get the ocean but i dont wanna get one if they have a better drift comin out. I love my drift!

  14. gonzotino Says:

I can’t tell if its the drift.

I have hunch that this may be what we may be getting, or a version of it.

I could also be dead wrong, but I can dream.

It is coming out by the end of the year… and it’s a slider.

  17. gonzotino Says:

BobbyB: not wanting to risk irritating corporate wrath on such a fine website as this one, all I can say a) the schematic image (only the back - without battery revealing the microsd slot) is in there if you can strip pdfs apart and b) its not any of the images you posted previously.

if CAM82 is dead on - maybe you’ll get it for yourself as a christmas gift and share a review with the rest of us

    good luck!

I got my info from a director. The person says to wait til it launches before I add another line to my account for my sister.

I work for Helio and I can not give too much info away due to confidentiality agreements. But the Vodaphone version is close to it. Almost exactly. Its going to be nice. I seen it in a meeting. But I can’t say much more than that!!!

these are a few pics ive been looking into and it matches the FCC schematics as far as form factor and the SD slot is in the same place…the camera is in the same spot too…if i put one and one together i see a potential Helio Device

  22. stormlifter Says:

Nice find there JohnnyFFTT I’d say you’ve got the closest guess there. As much as those Vodaphones looked nice, I think you found it.

  23. stormlifter Says:

I don’t see dual sliding action, which is a bummer. You can check the france website for details
