Push E-mail now enabled for Helio Mail

What’s better than being able to check your e-mail on your mobile device? Not having to check for e-mail on your mobile device.
It appears that as of some time this morning, Helio enabled an option that gives the user the choice to automatically receive any messages sent to Helio Mail accounts (*@myhelio.com). To enable it, just pop open the Helio Mail account on your device - Under menu, hit “Send/Receive”. You should see the dialog box above.
In our tests, it took about 30 seconds from the message being sent for it to show up on our phone - not too bad at all! When you get a message, it even displays a cool flame icon in your alert bar that we’ve never seen before.
No word yet on if this new feature is currently working or planned for the other inbox styles. In the mean time, you can generally set up most accounts (atleast Gmail) to forward e-mail directly to your Helio box. Instant notification, and it keeps your mobile emails separate from your original emails in case of any issues that may arise.
If you notice these instant alerts working on any of the other e-mail box styles, feel free to leave a comment and let us know!
Update: We’ve been told that Push should also work on Yahoo, Windows Live, and AOL.

This is good! Hopefully Gmail will have this option soon!

I suppose you could set up filters to forward certain emails to your helio address.

I have a custom pop3 email inbox, and it doesn’t work on that, so looks like it might be Helio Mail only for now…

My yahoo mail has pushed since i got the phone a couple weeks ago

Yahoo has been push capable since the beginning. Windows and AOL should also be pushing.

This is a good sign and hopefully indicative of other good things to come. Thanks Helio, I’m getting my Ocean next week and this just makes it all the sweeter!

Could just be a glitch, but I enabled the new mail alert and sent a test message to my Helio address and I didn’t get a notification or an email. I logged into my Helio account online (webmail interface) and sent a message to my Helio account and even then I didn’t get the test email in the webmail interface. Too bad, as I wanted to check out cool blue flame in the alert bar.
In terms of other push emails: Yahoo, AOL, and Windows Live all do push email out-of-the box. Gmail isn’t there yet though (but I’m not complaining).

Just a follow-up to my earlier post. My four test messages did eventually push to my Helio Ocean. The arrival times of the messages came in between 21 - 32 minutes. I’m certain the push of the Helio mail will improve over time. I just wanted to test it right away … thanks for the heads up on this feature, Heliocity!

Ooh, cool… but sadly I only use the Ocean for gmail, I’ve had gmail for years now (has gmail been out for years? I guess at least a year, wow). Here’s to hoping that this is simply a prequel to gmail push, so that I can stop depleting my battery by checking gmail every 12 seconds :).

i get my yahoo and hotmail acounts on my phone without checking them. i get them anywhere from right away to 10 to 15 minutes later. those are the only ones i use so i am happy

Well I enabled it & sent myself a test & the alert never came. So I am thinking this is still very buggy, but that it works for some people gives me a beacon of hope lol!

I tried this out yesterday, and like most others - it took a good 20-30 minutes for the first test e-mail to come through. Since then, it appears to only be taking about 30-60 seconds to come through. So, I think it’s an initial load thing.
I also set up GMail to forward a copy of e-mails to my Helio e-mail address, and those have the same 30-60 second delay now. Pretty sweet if you ask me.

yea +1… my yahoo has been having this option… I don’t turn it on only becuase I feel like i get too many emails for that to happen… it gets annoying… but hey that’s y i have this thing… I’m waiting for Gmail to get on it tho…

i tried it just right now while reading it and got my email and the alert 3 min after i sent it. not bad! im glad and now really looking forward to when there is a push for gmail. =]

is there any way that i can get the helio device to make an audible sound as the messages get pushed thru, instead of getting an icon and having to physically check the phone?

In my experience, it you’re not in 3G you won’t get a notification. I have been in analog most of the time at work and only really get a text or phone call notification, so very basic service.

Any word if Gmail push capability will be available soon? I’m holding off until a true push service is available
