2 months after the device hit the FCC, details and visuals of OZ II have leaked out to the internet.
Being that it’s a work in progress, the details are subject to change:
- 3 megapixel camera
- Dual Slider
- MicroSDHC
- 1GB internal storage
- In-browser flash
- 30fps video recording
- Touch-sensitive D-Pad
- PC Sync capability

I personally like the look a lot. Very sleek, and if it still has the same features as the ocean (dual slider with qwerty and all that) PLUS more stuff and improvements, then sign me up.

^ummmm, not so much. And besides, have you forgotten the iPhone v.2 is coming out? The only phone that could kill the iPhone is a difference touch-screen phone.

So far the iPhone has it, now the new Blackberry and now the Oz 2.
As for the phone…
Not too sure if I am totally digging it. I definitely like it much more than the Ocean. Only time will tell until further specs are released.

but thats the thing….it DOESNT look the same….we’re looking at it “bird-eye” perspective……its glossy all over and the keys seem to be flush with the body
this is going to be great….
one thing im hoping is that its not as heavy as the old ocean…the old ocean is kind of bricky, though I still love it…..

so let me ask you this… i was looking at the home page reading this thread about the new Helio Ocean 2, and i am reading the advertisement above it and to the side of it and they are advertising Cricket Mobile Unlimited plans for 35 dollars… WTF. Is heliocity so desperate for advertising money they will let anyone advertise on their page, specially a cellphone competior? Wow im a little ashamed

I hear it will be thinner, definitely like the new features. I do hope however it will have a BIGGER SCREEN!!! Hope it keeps the old features, as well (I know it will), could use tweaking on the browser though, maybe be able to update some of the programs more readily.

I think the oz2 is going to loose a layer, but still be a dual slider…. if you look at this picuture of the new pantech duo for att (http://www.geocities.com/kravinravin/duo2.jpg) which is just an att bastardized version of the ocean it’s totally lost a layer while still being a dual slider….
I if you look at the pic of the oz2 up above you’ll notice that the third layer which used to be silver is missing, and the top layer just has the silver edges, which made me overlook it to start with…. but I noticed it today when engadget posted this pick of the duo2…aka model m …. I agree with cosmo. the silver strip is the same exact thing as the ocean 1 but it looks bigger because its losing a layer. when it flips up you will get a number pad but it will be the same number pad thats on the qwerty keyboard…i think its genius. it still is a dual slider but it loser a whole layer which makes it slimmer.

OK…..I was about to buy the Helio Ocean about 3 minutes ago until I ran into this article. The phone is on sale right now for 150 plus a 50 dollar rebate. Obviously this is just a guessing game, but if the Ocean 2 does come out in 22 days, will Helio and it’s resellers sell it at a discounted price with a contract or should i just get the Ocean that is out now for that neat price cause i’m not willing to pay over 200 for a phone? Tell me what you think.

I was going to jump on helio as soon as my sprint contract was over (june 3rd) but since hearing of a newer model coming out soon. Now i gotta wait till it comes out!! ive wanted to get with helio for over ayear now. Finally the time of redemtion is at hand! HAH!!!

What a device looks like is nice, and flash capabilities would be killer (take that iphone) but what I’d really like to see is some better computing power.
I have an Ocean now, have had it for 7 months, and while there are things I love about it, there are other things which are so 1993.
Multitasking anyone? Most of you might have been too young to remember when Windows replaced DOS, but the revolution was all about the OS’s ability to do more than one thing at a time.
How about being able to look at my calendar while on a phone call? Maybe I want a place a call on while I’m listening to some tunes on the media player? Currently I have to shut the thing down and place a call, then fire it back up, re-load my playlist, and press play.
Currently, the only ‘multitasking’ this phone really allows me to do without shutting down the media player is browse the web. That’s cool and all, but what if I want to send a message while listening. Sounds reasonable, no? Not allowed.
And maybe threading my text messages? Replies come back ‘unattached’ with no reference to the original text. Makes it nearly impossible to use as a tool to document a conversation, or the development of a solution when a few participants are involved.
More power, please. Less emphasis on eye candy. The interface is slick and shiny, but it could stand to be a little more efficient.

Im hoping for 2 features - Wifi or Wimax, so I can have service where there is wireless internet, and VOIP while hooked up to wifi, allowing free calling while using the wifi connection. These 2 features would put the Ocean 2 way above anything else out there. Also, a more durable mic for the phone would be nice. Mine craps out when its real humid outside.

I like willies thought process.
There are some seemingly simple things that a oz1 can’t do that I hope that oz2 will be able to.
I like the look thus far. Now with that being said I have no idea as to how so many people can’t see the similarity’s between the oz1 and the oz2…I mean, as so many people have pointed out time and time again, look at the sidekicks…they all look the same, just little modifications along the way.
The things we know are “leaked”, and the pictures we have are of the FCC black and white back view, and what is a sub par quality top down (which mind you the device is not lit.) and all we can say so far, is 1.) No soft touch, 2.) its still black and silver, 3.) The screen is still the same size.
In an age of touch screen, “I” branding, it will be nice to be able to see what helio is planning on doing with this device in order to keep the masses happy and there few and far apart hardcore customers and supporters satisfied so they will not see a steady decline in subscribers to go to at&t for the iphone 2.0 3G, blackberry bold, or even the super hardcore which will wait for the android phone from google.
So needless to say, I hope for the best for any new news that comes out about this phone, and about the helio brand name as a whole (because I know when I read that little thought about helio and virgin merging I was about all of phone call away from canceling my contract to avoid that mess.)
So we should all take a deep breath, wait for the weeks to come and keep our eyes peeled for the reviews and buzz to settle to a level of acceptability and reality…and then make a decision about our cell phone purchases and future standing with our respectable companies.

HEY! i heard the next iPhone will have a 4G network so i hope Helio can compete with that an maybe even show up Apple.
personally, i think the current Ocean has better looks an i love mine, but i dont really care what it looks like as long as it rorks better! i used to be verizon an psssshh they dont compare to helio.
Touchscreen would be nice an i love the camera!! better momory is a plus but i have noticed the menu transition is slow or delayed on my Ocean so i hope that is fixed. is there any word on the pricing and reveal date? im having a Phonegasm an i so want one!!

ok i like the way it looks so far. the dual slide is the attention getter and pretty much the helio trade mark. i sell helio out of rockford, il and every customer (well almost every customer) for the most part are interested in the ocean. i have to admit i had a sk3 and i wanted one, but now i sell for helio and i have a ocean and a fin also my girlfriend has a mysto. i am an honest salesman and for that reason i put the ocean down.
It was the most expensive phone, ($411now $360) the fin is the most expensive now. I dont think i know you dont get your money’s worth. why? because besides the “heat” (the cheapest phone helio offers) the ocean has the weakest signal; everyone is sooo amazed that it has a dual slide but its all talk and show.
i was thinking helio needs to make a superphone sort of speak. i heard the hero has a lound speaker for ringtones talking ect. i know the mysto has the strongest signal out of the four phones helio has to offer now. (heat, fin, mysto, ocean) these were the phones that i have sold since i worked here so i dont know about any other phones, people seem to lik the looks of the ocean. so why not make an ocean with a signal equal or better than the mysto and the sound of the hero? the fin and heat dont really have anything more to offer for improvment in my opinion.

ok i got some p.s. to do… aha! XD ok i should have read everyones comment before i added my own, like i said before i have the sk3 which im selling bc it just doesnt compare in alot of ways. i do like that on the sk3 you can txt, instant message, read emails, (i think go on internet), and talk on the phone while listening to music.
Lets see here…oh yea the mogol for sprint it has wi fi that is awsome! i mean get internet off your phone?! yea impressive! another thing…memory the mysto can hold a 4gig micro so its only natural that the people would want same or better from a new phone. (i found out that you can watch whole movies on your helio. you mayknow this already. i also found out that the phones are quick time compatable so you dont need to go to helio and download their little program that plays your videos with no audio. wow that might work if i was defth an couldnt hear…but i like to listen to the videos i watch. any way i went on “limewire” and started downloading movies that are quicktime or you can convert them; and i put in my micro sd click and drag the file put the card in my phone and watch the movie. you may have to compress so it doesnt take up so much memory)
there are not that many phones that can play whole movies (i have live free or die hard, how high, tokyo drift, step up “ha ha go ahead laugh i took it off i just wanted to see if it worked”)
lets jump subjects to txt audio. i mean you get i think 1 of 3default choices wow! thank you….so kind :D…ummm not. you know that people pay for those so why stop yourselves from getting more money? thats what makes you different, or funny i mean with my sk3 i had stewie from family guy (everytime i gotta txt he would say “what the duece?!”) IT WAS HALARIOUS ppl laugh i laugh an there is happiness for a few seconds…minutes if they are really lame.
good job on the better cam. the fin is the only phone w/3mega pix but oh yea no flash. (hey guys lets take a pic with my 3mega pixle cam….oh wait its night time and i have no flash)
get into tv like everyone else, quit slackin some people like those features…i dont care but ppl spend money to watch games or check on scores.

VERIZON-i just got the new venus it only cost me $200, its sooo cool i have gps navigation only $10 a month. unlt min, txt, internet, pix msg, vid msg, email, instant msg, and its only $140!
HELIO-oh really i have the same thing only i have the mysto my phone cost $50. i have a little bit more on my plan though…i pay less and get more! my bill is $99 i get unlt min. txt, pic, vid, im, myspace, googel, youtube, buddy beacon (so my friends n family that have helio i can know where they are) gps navigation $10 a month too, i can also upload my pix an vids straight to the net from my phone i dont need a computer. my phone has no time limit on how long it can record (with my 1gig mem i have a 20hr vid on my phone!). and the movies on my phone are free bc i get them off limewire just like everyone else! the resolution on my screen on my phone when i watch a video is better than my computer!

I’ve been thinking about an iPhone for my next phone since my plan expires in april next year, yes it’s a long wait, but still. Now I might want to upgrade from my ocean to this one! But it depends on what it has, and if they made it thinner I would be happy!

Helio representatives have told me the Ocean II will be released sometime this year in December of 08.
