White Mysto and Red Heat make their way to Koreans
Posted by Justin B. on July 16th, 2008 at 12:10 AMHelio quietly released the white Mysto and red Heat within the past couple of days to the Korean-American market. No word yet if they will make their way outside of the KA market, however if it’s anything like the Mysto’s original release, they’ll probably come out in a few weeks. Otherwise, you should be able to pick one up at a “Powered by SKTelecom” Helio dealer. We’ll try and get some real pictures up soon if possible. That white Mysto is mighty fine lookin’, oh la la je le veux!

i swear to god. when i worked at the old helio kiosk that i did a while back i remember hearing from one of the guys that worked there too that a helio rep met up with him one time and they said that they were gonna release new colors of old phones just to give everyone something to hold onto until the new phone comes out. i thought it was BS. just sounded like a waste of time. this was months ago. but putting all the pieces together now, it’s starting to make sense. i’m not an insider. but it sounds logical for the new phone to not come out for another few months. hopefully because it might run on Sprint’s newest, fastest network… something is hiding up those sleeves of Helio’s… just you wait and see. i’m gonna be one of the few who waited for the one phone to kill the blackberry and the instinct and the dare and… dare i say it…? the IPHONE3G????

not only that but i have a question to Greg K… how pissed would you be if they came out with a white Ocean? WHAMMO!!!!!!!!!
July 16th, 2008 at 2:25 am
lmfaooooo @ dshot. if helio came out with a white ocean he’d have every right to dump a tub of white paint on some corporate executives car lol.

Thanks for the charity helio…

Oh wow…new COLORS! This makes me forget about features that other carriers have, such as wifi, threaded text messages, touchscreens, etc. I’m going to stay with Helio and let them take my money FOREVER!
July 16th, 2008 at 8:15 am
I work at Express, and I actually saw someone who came straight from Korea with a white mysto, but this was about 3 weeks ago!!! I’m not sure if she had helio or not, but maybe.

Woah. That is what is supposed to hold you guys off for the OZ2? I’d be pissed.
“Well, they are screaming for the OZ2, what do we do?”
“Paint our old phones!”

@Xander
hahaha……yea…. you’re right
same phones, different color……..if they were gonna paint a phone, it should have been the Drift and the Mysto…..not the heat
July 16th, 2008 at 11:04 am
Red and white eh? Kind of like the colors for VIRGIN MOBILE!!!!! lol jk jk jk I dunno I think it’s kinda late in the game to send out different colors of those phones. Plus it’s only in Korea right now? How does that help us hold over until the OZ2?!
July 16th, 2008 at 11:12 am
thier just trying to clear out thier shelves.the last of the helios.bet money the new ocean will say virgin.they should just give these away to intice people to stick around.lame

I agree with dshot. I think there is something up Helio’s sleeve. I just hear that SK Telecom is talking to Sprint again. Not a merger but phone and service additions. New colors for old phones means that there may be something coming down the pipe. We all know how good the Sprint network is with all the services that Helio can offer with the reliability. With a partnership, I think SKT and Sprint can up and offer some ground shaking product to beat blackberries and iPhones.
I also think that Helio can blow them all out with one change of the business plan. Open the HelioOS to developers like what iPhone has done with their apps store. But it may be too late, why would a developer split their time to develop for both devices. Unless, the Sprint Network really kicked butt. If SKT and Sprint have their act together, they can pull those developers and create an awesome “4G” network, awesome apps on top of awesome handset platform. If they don’t do it soon, Apple will release a new several new handsets that are not just in different colors but in different form-factors.
we need to grab ahold of someone’s ear at Helio/Virgin to open up the platform and go opensource.

Haha, still no Official White Ocean… Although an Sea Tide Ocean would be nice too…
July 16th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Nonono, Korean-AMERICAN market. They are released here in America but only to the SKT-Helio dealers.
July 16th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
ahhh I get it now lol Still kinda lame tho. But I guess for those people who are looking for just a simple phone it’s cool.
July 17th, 2008 at 7:59 am
Maybe they’ll release a Red OZ2?
July 17th, 2008 at 11:43 am
im not impressed
July 17th, 2008 at 12:06 pm
if those pics are ‘real’, then that red background screen looks kinda cool on the heat. — ‘real’ meaning not totally tampered with…we all know theres a white mysto and red heat.. at least they have NOT come out with interchangable faceplates!
..those are the dumbest things.
July 17th, 2008 at 8:00 pm
The pictures look photoshopped to me. We all know the phones exist, but I don’t think the picture is real.
July 18th, 2008 at 8:15 am
I’m using a Drift which is a Korean version, but I can easily switch to English. Menu -> 1 -> 8 -> 9
It’s just same as the English one… only difference is that it has English and Korean keypad.

I would like to know how many of you guys work for Helio? I’m loyal to Helio because they started the $99 plan. I’m hear to say they better come with it. Money is getting tight for everyone. Bring out new phones now. Drop price. Give us live TV. Do something!!!!!!!!!!!! Helio can just bow out. I will be leaving.
July 19th, 2008 at 11:45 pm
i def. agree with adding live tv. marketing toward a tech savvy niche market from the get go means….they should include live tv. if they dont by the end of this year, that will be sad. because, then i feel like some will switch to sprint (if their CS get tremendously better) because their simply everything plan includes everything helio offers + live tv….for the same price….or att/verizon/tmobile helio def. needs to get on the tv. both other their mvno “partners” offer it (sprint/verizon), so it would be so easy to implement…unless they’re going for an added Korean DMB chip as well for us koreans to use in korea. that would be sweet.
side note…with so many people that like tv, and so many people that travel, you’d think samsung/lg/toshiba/sharp/sony, etc would come up with a phone where the tv would work in every country that has mobile live tv…THAT would be cool. yah, there’d be some channels that arent in english, but hey, thats no different than turning on the tv in a hotel room in a foreign country..except, somehow there’s always american cnn & british bbc…

This would be my very last visit to this website. I’ve been anxiously waiting for the OZ2, and kept on coming for the release date or any sort of news on it, but finally reached my point of giving up and to move on. Releasing damn old phones with different colors ain’t gonna impress nor attract non-helions. I’m going to get the new iphone. I’m sorry Helio, I’m just out of patience.
July 23rd, 2008 at 2:57 pm
They look pretty cool…. but I agree with what wildrage said up there at the top….
The color change doesn’t make me forget about what they’re lacking and what all the other companies out there are releasing….
July 23rd, 2008 at 8:17 pm
I agree with focetimepiece, I’m tired of not having ANY updates from helio, least they can do is release some pics to keep us interested, by the time they release anything most of the ppl that would buy it that are already members will have abandoned ship because of the lack of anything NEW from Helio or VM for that matter, a few shots and a general release date would hold most us over till then.
Helio was doing great till they started merging, I know it takes time but they kept updating with cool new apps and services. The Ocean is over a year old I would guess and I still think it’s a pretty advanced phone even compared to some new phones now. the dual-slider STILL amazes people when they see it. I can still show up people with things it does and how quickly for the most part, I love my ocean, but I want a new one,
My Contract ends in Feb/09 and depending on how cool the OZ2 is and when they release it I will deceide if I will buy it and renew. if it comes out Nov i I’m not gonna buy it to use for 3 month and switch. I just hope to god they throw us a little bone to hold us all over that still love helio but don’t like them as much as of late.
