Review: Virgin Mobile Helio Ocean 2
Posted by Greg Kumparak on February 3rd, 2009 at 10:12 AM
Since the day the original Helio Ocean hit the shelves, rumors were abound that a followup was in the works. 2 years have since passed, countless rumors and leaks have come and gone, and the company that birthed the original has since been acquired – but it’s finally here. Has the wait been worth it?

I have the ocean. I won’t buy it again. It’s the same phone. I think they will come out with new phones soon. I don’t want to count them out just yet.

definitely not worth the wait but definitely a step in the right direction:) I’m certain better devices will be coming out of Helio by the year’s end…

After the long wait, this comes as a disappointment. Hopefully they didn’t bet the bank on the Ocean 2 and still have something up there sleeves.

I don’t like it keys are too big the color is ugly it looks like a cheap pre paid phone. I’ll stick with my Helio Ocean1. Just one question, why would they put the mini SD slot behind the battery? Making you have to open your phone up and remove the battery That’s a big turn off, I was expecting way more from the Helio Ocean 2. Big let down. Oh and the camera lens looks like crap!

So for about 6 months I have been waiting for this new device from helio. Last week when I got the text on my ocean that the new one was coming out I was excited called all my friends that have helio to make sure they got it.
Today I look at the pics and videos here and I am still waiting on a new phone. Like someone said they are moving in the right direction, but even though helio has great technology I want the cool stuff like the Iphone(even though I would never buy it. Finally I am really upset they are only offering it in a red color. I want to buy willing to use my upgrade and sign a new 2 year deal because I like the service and all they offer but now I am really considering just terminating.

I don’t really need to say this but…
I TOLD YOU SO.
Gizmodo state it best here, as such…
“With phones such as the Palm Pre and the iPhone out there for not all that much more, you’ve got to wonder how many people are going to be interested in signing a two-year contract for a two-year-old phone that’s merely been polished instead of being really revamped. You certainly won’t feel like you’ve got the hottest piece of tech on the block, but it’s also too expensive and bulky to be seen as a good budget phone. It’s stuck in a vague middle area, a place few customers are going to want to go.”
You would really have to be retarded thinking this is new and sweet and want to condemn yourself to two years with it.

Welp, after reading all the reviews on it (none of which had much good to say) this has totally made me think I made the right choice with picking up another phone and not waiting for this Ocean2. Besides, why in gods name is the thing still so big?
