so you (greg) got to mess with it? how was it?

Idk, looking at these pictures, it looks almost just like the Ocean… It doesn’t look much more advanced, but they didn’t release specs eithers… I don’t think this’ll be enough to keep them afloat…

poor Helio….
Whyd they go off and slap the cheap red(orange) on there?
January 29th, 2009 at 2:50 pm
wow… orange.. hopefully there’s a few color options.. cuz I do not like that bright orange.. also on the manual it has a sleeker dark blue color which I would buy. of course if orange is the only color then I’ll buy it to upgrade but yeah.. hopefully there’s a couple more color schemes

oh! one more thing. does anyone know how much it’s gonna cost? upgrade and full price, if anyone knows. thanks

That looks red to me, not orange.
Also, the back of the phone is REALLY ugly. They should of stuck to the original design of the first Ocean when it comes to the back. But the front is AMAZING.

@ Eddy I heard this phone was supposedly going to have Flash support but as for the “official” specs, it’s stating the Ocean 2 having an HTML browser instead so, it could go either way really.

Are you kidding me…? The new color scheme is the right way to go. A lot of the smartphones these days have some awful lookin ones. That color alone makes me want to upgrade from my OG Ocean. Will need to know more though, like if the sound issues were addressed. Judging from the back of the phone, it sure looks like they did, but i’ll need confirmation on that before I make the jump. Features and customizability were the main reason I went with Helio’s Ocean. If someone could take screenshots of the manual, that would be helpful. Once again, this is one of the slickest phones I have seen in a long…long time. Loyal Helions will more than likely upgrade.

ok… so whats the difference between the first and second?
January 30th, 2009 at 11:33 am
Glad to see that we finally got some official news! I’m def not a fan of the reddish orange color, would be nice to have at least a standard black option (or white after all of the desire for a white ocean before) but it wont stop me from upgrading. More than I hope that this phone will be nice and worth the upgrade, I hope that it will get the “new” Helio moving forward, and they will release another device or two this year and offer some new features that we will actually use…exciting to see this much though

lolORANGE/RED/Whatever
This thing looks like the Windows ME of cell phones. I can’t wait until my contract is up in May. I will admit that the Helio Fanboys/Fangirls on this site are fiercely loyal, even though they come out with crap like this. To each their own.

YES…..its finally here, im so stoked!!! Color is diff but I guess that want it to stand out!! Hopefully what we heard previously abt the specs was right b/c the 1st Ocean set the bar as far as new technology…..1 of the first 3G devices!! Cant wait to upgrade!
January 30th, 2009 at 6:27 pm
Not interested. I don’t think the helio ocean has the specs to have a good bang for the buck. Unless they make it fully compatible with java apps, and allow multiple applications at once/1 in the background, there are much better options.

It looks nice but ima wait for more colors (if any)

I do agree with Nickds7. I want to be able to text someone while talking on the phone or that the phone will put my surfing on the net in the background while I answer a phone call or a text message. I want full HTML email like the iphone Safari browser. I hate the fact that we still have to deal with text only email even when I use opera mini! What kind of crap is that?! I want to be able to put a microSD card in the capacity of 20GB or 40GB. Am I asking for too much? What about using MP3 ring tones? What’s up with MMF ring tones? That’s ridiculous, MP3’s sound better and are compatible with all MP3 players out there! I hope they fixed all these problems if not I will jump ship after my contract expires. I’ll probably upgrade anyway just to get a better phone until the contract is over! Do you Helions here me out there?!

oh yes, I forgot to mention, how about a multi-language keyboard? Like English, Spanish, Italian, German, French etc… I don’t know Korean language, why is there English and Korean only? Nokia phones have multi-language keyboards and so does Blackberry. Come on people lets get it right! Is anyone out there?!

Wow. I am hating that colour. I *hate* red, and although I love orange, this is sort of a firey red colour to me. I’m disappointed that the QWERTY buttons were turned into a “map” style rather than each button having a seperate raised surface like in the original Ocean. Helps when I’m texting in the dark, because I can feel for where the letters are (I always have the backlight off to conserve battery.) I bought the Ocean at launch, and have enjoyed Helio’s pricepoint for the services I use (even though they jewed me on overages and switching plans…) but I am honestly not interested in the Ocean 2, and it’s disappointing.

Welcome back Helio! I’ve been checking back daily waiting for signs of life. Just in time. My ocean crapped out on me 3 days ago. I bought a Drift on Craig’s List for 15 bucks to hold me over. My contract expires in July. If the reviews are good, I’ll get the Ocean 2 and renew.

Alright, so according to the pics…no flash for the camera? Thats stupid. The flash was one of the best parts about the ocean! I use it every day for a flashlight. I’ve also read all of the news stories online about it and there seem to be some conflicting ideas about the exact specs. Some sites say flash is supported on the brower, some say it isn’t. Some say they didn’t make the internal memory 1GB also…
if there isnt browser or cam flash, this long awaited OZ2 is LAME. I’ve lost faith HELIO.

This phone has been rated excellent by numerous respectable sites… (ie. CNET) It has no flash for the camera but a “night shot” feature. A smart optical sensor touch pad, bigger screen, better battery with all around improved features/design and will also be available in multiple colors. And now with nights starting at 7pm-7am
I am pleased for it’s eventual release and I praise Virgin for keeping the Helio name and logo intact along with the website! Heliocity can live on and Helions can begin to move forward again with better service/plans and a promising future…
I’m certain over the period of this year that we will see Helio reclaim it’s old glory…

the red is because its virgin…if you go to their website there is red everywhere. Im sure helio didnt want that but…thats why there will be more colors in the future. maybe a white one? that way greg k doesnt have to mod his lol
