Golla Contest Winners

Posted by Justin B. on June 18th, 2008 at 06:35 PM

Thanks to everyone who entered. As always, I wish I could give a prize out to everybody… But I can’t. So, those two lucky little rascals are:

  • Schnessa - Cube Golla
  • StarRface - Adele Golla
  • Congrats to the winners and watch out for more contests in the near future! Remember to check out the review if you haven’t already, or if you want to nab one, you can do so from the accessories section at the Helio store.

Golla Mobile Bags Review & Contest

Posted by Justin B. on June 10th, 2008 at 04:20 AM

If you haven’t noticed, we’ve kinda been going review crazy lately. Well, not exactly crazy, but more reviews than we’ve done in a long time (Oops, we’ve been slacking!). Shortly after the Helio Ocean skins were added into the Helio Store - Order Accessories page, they added in these odd things called Golla bags. Turns out, they are actually pretty cool. Helio has been nice enough again to send us some to review. And since I can’t wear them all at the same time, (I could, but it would look kinda weird) we are going to hold a contest to get rid of them.

  • Two winners by random selection. One for the pink Adele Golla, and one for the black Cube Golla. Contest ends Monday, 06/16/08 at 11:59pm
  • Heliocity Community Game Day

Posted by Greg Kumparak on June 7th, 2008 at 04:10 PM

Tomorrow evening, we’ll be having an all-community game day. Well, game night, really - but that doesn’t sound as nice.

We’ll be playing Call of Duty 4 on the Xbox 360, because nothing inspires community bonding like shooting at each other with assault rifles.

    Where: Xbox Live
When: June 8th, 2008 at 6 pm Pacific.
How: Just add my gamertag, Kromaen. I’ll start up a private lobby a few minutes before game time.

It’ll go ’till people lose interest. If I recall, lobbies cap out at around 16 people - so there aren’t a whole lot of spots. If you’re dyin to play, show up early. Check out this thread for discussion.

    See you tomorrow night!

    Garmin Car Mount Review

Posted by Justin B. on June 5th, 2008 at 01:07 AM

    Ocean all suctioned.

Oh boy, was this a fun one to review. Helio sells this “Garmin Car Cradle” from their online store (under the “Order Accessories” link), and I had no clue what it really did or was even like until Helio graciously sent us one. When I first opened the box it came in, I was sort of wishing that I still had no idea what it did or was like, as it doesn’t come with an instruction manual, and all these scary pieces were just taunting me in the bags. Without an instruction manual, it was a doozy trying to assemble it. After finally getting it all together and figuring how to make it suction to the window, it actually isn’t half bad. Overall, it’s very useful, especially since you can use it with a multitude of devices.

    Ocean Skin Contest Winners

Posted by Justin B. on May 31st, 2008 at 05:54 PM

    Prizes

Just a week ago, we reviewed and held a contest for the new Helio Ocean skins. We had a great turnout for the contest, most likely because it involved one simple comment (You lazies). We’ve selected the winners at random from the comments on that post, and here they are!

  • sed51329
  • helio_562
  • kodec
  • xAceYourFacex
  • Thanks for participating, and don’t be jealous or disappointed if you didn’t win! We love giving stuff away, and I’m sure you guys love getting the stuff we give away! If you missed the review, you can read/look at it again here.

We also received many messages about where to purchase the skins from, and it is kind of hidden away (*wink wink nudge nudge Helio*). To purchase them, you just need to login to your account at https://selfcare.helio.com, and follow the link titled “Order Accessories“. Make sure your Ocean is the active device on your account, otherwise you won’t be able to view the skins for it. As well as having the Ocean as your current device, you will also need to be logged into the main line of your account if you have more than one line.

Still having problems finding it? Click the following picture, it should expand, and look for the green arrows.

    Here it is.

Pantech makes our April Fools joke real.. sort of

Posted by Greg Kumparak on May 26th, 2008 at 02:04 PM

I was a bit busy at CTIA when April rolled through this year, so I kept our April Fools joke fairly simple. Playing on the idea of giant remote controls, I announced that Helio had decided to target an older market with the “Helio Era”. Larger buttons, simplified user interface, etc.

Well, looks like Pantech actually had something along those lines in the works — albeit, not for Helio. AT&T began selling the Pantech Breeze device today, a device aimed at an older market. Larger buttons? Check. Simplified user interface? Check. Sure, it’s missing the Fred Astaire ring tones, but I’m sure Pantech just had last minute licensing issues.

New Review: Helio Ocean Skins (+Goodies)

Posted by Justin B. on May 24th, 2008 at 12:58 AM

All five MyTego skins, beautifully arranged for your viewing pleasure.

As you may or may not have noticed, you can now purchase a selection of five Helio Ocean skins from the online Helio store, and we were able to get our hands on some from Helio to check em’ out! They are the same kind you can get from MyTego.com except the price is half of what you’d pay there. At just $15 dollars a pop, it isn’t too bad for some harmless customization.

And since we didn’t want them all to go to waste, we only applied one of them for the review so we could give the other four away in a … *dramatic drumroll*contest!

To enter just comment on this post and we will randomly pick four people. Remember, we need to be able to contact you if you win, so make sure when you comment you are using a valid e-mail address. Only one entry per person. Enjoy! Contest ends May 31st, 2008 at 11:59pm
