Review: Ocean Skins

All five MyTego skins, beautifully arranged for your viewing pleasure.

Helio recently added the MyTego skins to their online store. Of course, we had to check them out and give our review of them! While putting things onto my Ocean or any of my devices really isn’t “my cup of tea”, a lot of people out there really enjoy doing this.

There are five different skins for the Ocean available from Helio’s store, and all are priced at $15.00. This is way cheaper that customizing your own skins at MyTego.com, which can run you up to a whopping $31.00. Each package comes with the skin sheet, instructions, plastic application sticker, and a alcohol pad to clean the surface of the device.

The MyTego skins are fairly good quality. I’d imagine they would be easier to apply on a more “normal” device but alas, the Ocean really isn’t normal. The Ocean does have a very odd shape, so I was surprised when the skins actually fit pretty well. Another great thing about the skins is that there is no nasty residue that gets left behind.

Applying the skins can be semi-frustrating, because there are many stickers you have to take off prior to application. MyTego does not punch out each of the QWERTY keyboard keys, so you will have to take them off before you apply the skin. Once you get that all out of the way, the instructions recommend you use the clear sticker to apply the MyTego skins, however I found it easier to just apply it by hand. If you mess up and stick it in the wrong spot, don’t worry. The stickers are pretty forgiving when it comes to re-applying them. Due to the difficulty in getting every single sticker on to the Ocean correctly, I’m only going to apply one for the review.

13th Garden by Sandrine Replat - This skin is the one I chose to actually try on my Ocean. It looked pretty good considering I’d rather have my device bare. It sort of reminds me of a spooky haunted house gate during the night.

Light Fantastic by Pat Boyer - A cool looking design, looks like something you’d expect on a t-shirt.

Heart Motif by MyTego - Hearts and more hearts. One of the more “girly” type designs.

Eerie by Pat Boyer - It’s really not that eerie, but whatever. Consists of many stylized designs mashed together.

Rock Star 2 by Pat Boyer - Another stylized mashup (with banana).
