The news this week has been flowing in at a snails pace, but I feel the need to satiate your RSS feeds.

Contest Announcement:

We’ll be having a contest in our forums starting July 1st. We’ll be giving away a 1 gigabyte microSD card, some e-gifts from the Helio store, and possibly some other stuff too. You’ll have to be a forum member to enter. More details on the day of the contest.

Ringtones:

At the end of may, we announced that we would be featuring awesome bands by offering exclusive Ringtones to Heliocity visitors each month. Since then, we’ve been reviewing all the bands who submitted their stuff to us. We’ve already got the first 2 months lined up. Interested in getting your band featured? E-mail us with a sample of your stuff.

We’ve switched hosts. We now have a whole lot more bandwidth, and we’re running a heck of a lot faster.

We apologize for any inconvenience the switch may have caused for anyone. While our work was done by about 2:30 am, it may take a few hours for ISP’s around the globe to update their DNS records.

In other news: We’ve switched to a new default forum theme. It’s a bit darker. We understand that not everyone in the world like the darker themes, so we’ve left our old forum theme intact for those who prefer it. If you’d rather user that, just switch your theme in your profile’s “Look and Layout” settings.

If you find any issues or bugs popping up after the switch, please let us know.

You may notice some downtime, or you may not - it really all depends on how quickly your ISP acknowledges DNS changes.

We’ll try to make this a smooth as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.

After we uploaded the Helio “Creation” commercial theme, we just sat back and watched as the bandwidth usage skyrocketed.. When it hit 1,000 downloads in just a few hours, it was pretty clear that our users are pretty big fans of audio files. (How odd!)

So - We want to give you more. Sure, Helio hasn’t released any new catchy themes yet, but there is surely other music out there that makes good listening.

Each month starting in April, we’ll be featuring a new artist. We’ve already got the first few months lined up with some great bands. We’ll tell you a bit about them and offer up a free ringtone based on their stuff.

Are you an artist or part of a independent/small-label band? Give us a shout. Try to provide some info about your music, and somewhere we can listen to your stuff (Myspace band pages are fine). You get promotion, and our users get to rock out to your stuff everytime someone calls. Win win!

Up in the top bar, you may notice a shiny new link. It leads to our brand-spankin’ new Media section, ushered in by a generous act on Helio’s part.

Earlier today, Helio gave us the thumbs to exclusively distribute the much-requested song featured in the Helio Ocean “Creation”" video. As such, we’ve passed it on to our community at a lovely 320kbps.
