Oh heeeells yeah.

Back in July, Helio flipped the switch that enabled Push e-mail support for Helio Mail, Yahoo, Windows Live, and AOL.

Gmail has now received the same treatment, making Helio the first carrier to support Push Gmail. It’s available now on any device with Ultimate Inbox. If you already have Gmail configured on your device, all you have to do now is hit “Send/Receive”, and it’ll ask you if you want automatic notifications enabled. Blam - Push Gmail support.

Update: Not just Gmail! All POP inboxes have gotten the option to receive automatic notifications!

Update #2: IMAP, Too!

What’s better than being able to check your e-mail on your mobile device? Not having to check for e-mail on your mobile device.

It appears that as of some time this morning, Helio enabled an option that gives the user the choice to automatically receive any messages sent to Helio Mail accounts (*@myhelio.com). To enable it, just pop open the Helio Mail account on your device - Under menu, hit “Send/Receive”. You should see the dialog box above.

In our tests, it took about 30 seconds from the message being sent for it to show up on our phone - not too bad at all! When you get a message, it even displays a cool flame icon in your alert bar that we’ve never seen before.

No word yet on if this new feature is currently working or planned for the other inbox styles. In the mean time, you can generally set up most accounts (atleast Gmail) to forward e-mail directly to your Helio box. Instant notification, and it keeps your mobile emails separate from your original emails in case of any issues that may arise.

If you notice these instant alerts working on any of the other e-mail box styles, feel free to leave a comment and let us know!

Update: We’ve been told that Push should also work on Yahoo, Windows Live, and AOL.
